Washington, D.C. — The XR Association has announced the formation of its Education Working Group (“EWG”), a new benefit for its member companies. This committee will focus on the responsible development of immersive technology and software in academic settings. The EWG will be chaired by Jonathan Teske, Future of Education Lead at Meta and staffed by Stephanie Montgomery, XRA’s Vice President, Research and Best Practices. The first meeting of the EWG will take place on Thursday, June 23rd, 2022.
EWG participants will come together and author a new chapter of XRA’s ongoing series, the “Developers Guide: An Industry-Wide Collaboration for Better XR” focused on best practices for the educational uses of XR, which will be published later this year. This work will be informed by the recent joint forum held by the Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Street and XRA. The EWG will also assist in guiding XRA’s survey research partnership with International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), which will ask 500 school teachers and administrators about their experience and outlook regarding the use of XR in the classroom.
“The XR market has tripled over the past 5 years with many deployments in the enterprise space. Exposing youth to tools they will find in the workplace is essential to growing the workforce and the economy,” said Stephanie Montgomery, the XR Association’s Vice President of Research and Best Practices. “By bringing together XRA members focused on the responsible use of immersive technologies in the classroom, we will help reduce barriers to the use of the technology and improve educational outcomes.”
The EWG is open to all XRA member company representatives and is actively seeking participants who have experience in or wish to enter the XR education market. Interested XRA member companies are encouraged to contact Stephanie Montgomery. To learn more about XRA membership, please visit www.xra.org/joinus.
