XRA SVP OF RESEARCH & BEST PRACTICES HIGHLIGHTS CYBERSECURITY AND GLOBAL POLICY SHIFTS AT ICPHSO 2026
Orlando, Florida — The XR Association (XRA) joined global safety and compliance leaders last week at ICPHSO 2026 in Orlando to examine the growing role of cybersecurity in connected technologies and the policy changes reshaping the industry.
XRA’s Senior Vice President of Research and Best Practices, Stephanie Montgomery, shared the stage with representatives from UL Solutions, TÜV Rheinland and TIC Council America to discuss cybersecurity challenges in the Internet of Things and their implications for immersive technologies.
Panelists addressed the impact of the developing voluntary cyber mark program led by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, as well as the European Union’s 2024 passage of the Cyber Resilience Act, which will be fully implemented in 2027. The discussion focused on how evolving regulatory frameworks in the United States and Europe are influencing product design, supply chains and compliance strategies across the XR ecosystem.
Speakers emphasized the challenge of balancing government-led cybersecurity initiatives with the rapid pace of innovation in emerging technologies, particularly as XR devices become more connected and integrated into daily life.
ICPHSO, an annual weeklong product safety conference, convenes experts from government, industry and consumer advocacy groups to examine global progress and persistent challenges in product safety. A highlight of the conference was a Tuesday keynote address by former Mattel CEO Bob Eckert, who outlined his approach to crisis management and corporate leadership during periods of heightened public scrutiny.
XRA said its participation underscores the association’s commitment to advancing best practices and promoting responsible innovation as cybersecurity and safety standards continue to evolve worldwide.
