Biometric Data
Some — but not all — XR technologies rely on biometric information.
This could include eye-tracking, head direction, hand position and bodily motion. In instances where biometric data is used, it is done so with the intention to deliver a full and safe virtual or augmented experience.
The XR Association recognizes that there are important privacy considerations around the collection, use, storage, sharing, and analysis of biometric data that are generated by XR technology. This necessitates that XR platforms and developers build robust data governance programs to protect data, as well as contribute to dialogue around regulatory compliance obligations and other frameworks.
