Washington, D.C. – On Thursday, March 23, 2023, the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation hosted the virtual webinar, “How AR/VR Can Help Expand Apprenticeship Programs,” with a featured keynote address by Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE-At Large). Following the keynote address, four panelists joined ITIF moderator, Juan Londono, including Amanda Longtain (Transfr), Shalin Jyotishi (Burning Glass Institute), Christopher Bybee (Interplay Learning), and Alicia Porile (House of Representatives). Panelists discussed how the use of immersive technologies could bolster the efforts to increase apprenticeship offerings and enrollment in the United States.
In her remarks, Rep. Blunt Rochester mentioned the ‘Immersive Technology for the American Workforce’ act, an XR workforce bill introduced last year. XRA worked closely with Rep. Blunt Rochester’s staff to draft the legislation, which would support colleges and education centers adopting XR technology for workforce development and skills training.
Rep. Blunt Rochester said she would be reintroducing the bill this year, alongside Representative Tim Walberg. We applaud her work to promote the mass adoption of immersive technologies for social good and are excited to see this investment in the future of work.
