XR for Opportunity & Access

XRA is leading the way for the responsible development and adoption of XR by convening stakeholders, developing best practices and research, and advocating on behalf of our members and the greater XR industry.

Diverse representation and accessible features are crucial to advancing broad XR deployment and experience enabling more individuals to utilize the technology, which results in both business and creative benefits.

Representation of diverse communities also helps users see themselves reflected in these experiences, resulting in a more personal and positive connection overall. Inclusion by design, in addition to assistive technology, in XR applications and hardware, affords users and enterprise solution providers the opportunity to meet all their users where they are.

XRA’s members support the need for equity which is not always fully understood. The image below depicts the difference between equality and equity. Under the premise of equality, each person is given the same bicycle, which lacks consideration for individual needs and abilities. Under equity, the woman in a wheelchair is given a vehicle she may operate with her arms; the tall man is given a bike that allows him to sit up straight; and the child is given a smaller vehicle that he may properly use.

Below is a collection of materials designed to promote inclusivity in immersive technology. Explore these resources for expert insights, practical guidance, and examples that help make immersive experiences accessible and welcoming to everyone.
