XR ACCESS AND XRA HOSTED COMMUNITY DISCUSSION ON PRIVACY AND ACCESSIBILITY

The XR Association and XR Access co-hosted a 90-minute community discussion exploring the intersection of privacy and accessibility in immersive technologies. Featured speakers included Alex Ambrose of ITIF, who discussed children’s safety and privacy in virtual environments, and Dr. Brendan David-John of Virginia Tech, who examined the risks of eye tracking and privacy-preserving solutions.

The conversation highlighted the tension between accessibility benefits, like captioning, facial recognition, and assistive smart glasses, and the privacy risks they create for both users and bystanders. Participants discussed regulatory proposals, technical safeguards, and the importance of community input, emphasizing that privacy and accessibility can coexist if built into XR systems proactively from the start.
