WASHINGTON, June 1, 2021 – The XR Association has announced the expansion of its categories of membership. In addition to headset manufacturers and platform operators, XR component and peripheral manufacturers, enterprise solutions providers, internet infrastructure companies including wireless services, and corporate end-users are invited to join the XRA in support of its mission to promote the responsible development and thoughtful advancement of XR. “Immersive technologies are poised for major growth in the coming years. The XR Association provides great opportunities for companies to network with the headset manufacturers, promote their products and services, and take part in our important educational outreach to policymakers and end users,” said Liz Hyman, CEO of the XR Association. “Together, we can make a big impact.”
This impact is already being felt on Capitol Hill where the XR Association recently succeeded in ensuring that “immersive technology” was identified as a key technology focus area in the U.S. Innovation and Competition Act. An historic bill, the proposed USICA seeks to ensure the United States will remain on the cutting edge of technology development by investing in research and development. The inclusion of XR technologies in the legislation puts XR on equal footing with other critically important emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and high-performance computing.
“As chair of XRA’s Board of Directors, I am excited for XRA to continue to evolve as the trade association for the XR industry. XRA brings together the XR ecosystem into one powerful organization,” said Heidi Holman, Assistant General Counsel at Microsoft. “All members of the XRA Board of Directors – Google, HTC, Microsoft, Oculus by Facebook, and Sony Entertainment – encourage companies in the XR ecosystem to join XRA and get involved.”
To coincide with its membership expansion, XRA is launching the first-ever XR industry e-news digest for everyone interested in immersive technologies – the XRAlert — in June 2021. This weekly newsletter will provide fast, free and curated news from across the XR ecosystem, along with key insights from the XR Association about debates in Congress impacting the XR industry, new research, updates to XRA’s Developers Guide series, and more.
