XRA’s comic book series explores the latest innovation in immersive technology: Wearable AI

Washington D.C. — Today, the XR Association, representing the growing ecosystem of companies working to bridge the digital and physical worlds with virtual, augmented and mixed reality technologies, announced the release of a third edition of XRA’s signature informational comic series, Into the Digital World, titled “The Future of Wearable Tech and Human Impact.”

Building on the foundational concepts introduced in the first edition and the safety and privacy features discussed in the second, the third edition dives into Wearable AI, the latest innovation in XR technology. The comic follows Kayla, a medical student, as a typical day in her life is enhanced by her AI-powered glasses merging her physical reality with the digital world through tips, information, and insights.

As AI-powered glasses become more capable, features that provide real-time contextual information and adapt digital experiences to users’ needs demonstrate how thoughtful, inclusive design can help make emerging technologies useful to a broader range of people. The chapter also illustrates XR’s growing role in industry sectors such as education and healthcare, providing a first hand illustration of how immersive technologies can help students engage with their studies through hands-on and experiential learning.

“Wearable AI represents an exciting next step in the evolution of immersive technology, bringing digital experiences more seamlessly into the ways we learn, work, and navigate our everyday lives,” said Chris Brown, Vice President of Public Policy at the XR Association. “With the latest chapter of Into the Digital World, we wanted to show what that future can look like in practical terms. As immersive technologies continue to evolve, it’s important that policymakers and the public understand both their tremendous potential and the role that thoughtful, responsible development will play in realizing those benefits.”

While policymakers and industry leaders alike are examining the opportunities and policy considerations associated with AI-powered wearable technologies, this chapter outlines what daily life powered by XR truly looks like. As devices are integrated into workplaces and public spaces, questions surrounding accessibility, privacy, safety, and responsible design will play an important role in shaping their adoption. The third edition is designed to help demystify these technologies by providing a clear picture of how they work and the ways they impact people’s daily lives.

The third installment’s release coincides with the sixth annual AR/VR Policy Conference, hosted by XRA and the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) on September 24, 2026 in Washington, D.C. The conference will convene policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, and other experts to examine key policy questions shaping the future of immersive technology, including the intersection of AI-powered wearables, accessibility, and privacy.
