Washington D.C. — The XR Association, representing the growing ecosystem of companies powering virtual, augmented, and mixed reality technologies, today released a refreshed second chapter of its Developers Guide: Creating Safe, Inclusive, and Respectful Immersive Experiences. This update builds on the original guidance issued in 2019 and reflects the industry’s ongoing commitment to fostering immersive environments where all users feel safe, respected, and welcome.
The revised chapter features updated insights from XRA member companies and leading experts across the XR ecosystem. It highlights modern examples of immersive tools and features that support safer user interactions and promote inclusive digital environments.
“This resource reflects the next step in XRA’s mission to continually provide practical, actionable, and up-to-date guidance for developers, manufacturers, and content creators,” said Liz Hyman, CEO of the XR Association. “We believe safety and inclusion must be designed into immersive experiences from the start. This guide helps developers do just that.”
Originally introduced as part of the XR Primer series, the Developers Guide aims to equip the XR industry with foundational best practices for building trust and confidence in immersive technologies. The updated chapter continues to explore key areas such as user behavior, community guidelines, content moderation, and inclusive design, emphasizing how these considerations can and should evolve with the technology.
This release is part of XRA’s broader effort to champion responsible innovation across the XR landscape. Informed by input from both XRA members and industry partners, the new guidance underscores the importance of collaboration in creating immersive technologies that serve all users.
XRA routinely adds new chapters to its XR Primer series of developer guides, each focusing on specific user groups and industries. Explore and download the full series here.
