XR ASSOCIATION SUBMITS FORMAL RESPONSE TO THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION’S CONSULTATION ON VIRTUAL WORLDS AND GENERATIVE AI

Washington, D.C. – On March 11, the XR Association, a prominent trade association representing the growing immersive technology ecosystem, submitted a written response to the European Commission’s consultation on “competition in virtual worlds and generative artificial intelligence.” This paper demonstrates XRA’s support for the development of open and people-empowering virtual worlds and policies that support innovation. It also encourages the EU to work with like-minded allies such as the U.S. on issues pertaining to standards, best practices, and governance frameworks for XR.

XRA’s response underscores a crucial moment in the evolution of immersive technologies, advocating for a collaborative approach between industry stakeholders and governmental bodies to shape the future of virtual environments. By engaging in constructive dialogue with European policymakers, XRA seeks to foster an environment conducive to responsible innovation, ensuring that XR technologies continue to enrich lives while upholding fundamental values of transparency and equity.
