March 26, 2025 – Today, the XR Association (XRA) joined fellow industry organizations in a letter to U.S. Trade Representative Jameison Greer, urging him to keep technology innovation in mind as U.S. trade and tariff policies are developed. The letter encourages the Administration to take a comprehensive approach to trade initiatives and consider how trade and tariff policies could risk delaying American advancement.
“We are at a critical moment in the race for innovation and global technology leadership,” said Joan O’Hara, XRA Senior Vice President of Public Policy. “Allies and adversaries alike are making significant investments in immersive tech. The U.S. needs to ensure we’re making the same if not greater investments in our innovators to secure every advantage and maintain our leadership in developing the technologies that will define the future.”
On March 24, Representatives Suzan DelBene (D-WA) and August Pluger (R-TX), and Senators Mark Warner (D-VA) and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) introduced the United States Leadership in Immersive Technology Act of 2025 which would establish an advisory panel of federal, civil society and industry leaders under the Department of Commerce to promote the development and adoption of immersive technology in the U.S.
“The Trump administration has made it clear that American leadership in technology is a top priority,” said Liz Hyman, CEO of the XR Association. “In keeping with this objective, we encourage Amb. Greer to prioritize U.S. innovation and enable our scientists, researchers, and companies to thrive in today’s ultra-competitive environment.”
