Lisbon, Portugal — On Tuesday, October 18, 2022, XRA’s Vice President of Public Policy, Joan O’Hara, spoke to an international audience of stakeholders at this year’s Virtual Reality and Healthcare: Europe Symposium, hosted by the International Virtual Reality Healthcare Association (IVRHA). In her presentation, “The State of U.S. Policy and Immersive Technologies,” O’Hara highlighted recent XR policy victories, including the articulation of “immersive technology” in the CHIPS and Science Act, and provided a preview of the 2023 legislative and regulatory landscape. Noting that lawmakers do not yet fully understand the transformative role of XR in healthcare, she encouraged the group to make their work known. “We need to make sure concerns about XR as an emerging technology don’t eclipse its truly miraculous benefits,” she said. “Those of you who are creating the future in this space need to share your stories far and wide!”
