Washington, D.C. – On Wednesday, July 1, 2026, the XR Association (XRA) – representing the diverse ecosystem of companies advancing virtual, augmented, and mixed realities, spatial computing, AI wearables and digital twins – commends the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade Subcommittee for holding a timely hearing yesterday on legislation that would help secure U.S. global leadership in technology, including the bipartisan United States Leadership in Immersive Technology Act (H.R. 2321).

“We are grateful to House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade Subcommittee Chairman Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) and Ranking Member Kathy Castor (D-FL) for taking an important first step in moving the United States Leadership in Immersive Technology Act,” said Chris Brown, VP of Policy for the XR Association.  “This bipartisan bill, along with its Senate counterpart (S. 1106), holding a hearing yesterday on pending legislation that would help secure U.S. global leadership in technology, including The United States Leadership in Immersive Technology Act (H.R. 2321). This bipartisan bill, sponsored by full committee member Rep. August Pfluger (R-TX) and Suzan DelBene (D-WA), would establish an interagency advisory panel at the U.S. Department of Commerce tasked with developing a national immersive technology strategy. “This commonsense legislation is needed to help the U.S. close the gap with other countries, including China, South Korea, the United Kingdom and the European Union, who have well-defined and focused strategies to advance their respective immersive technology sectors. We urge the full Committee to markup this critical bill and send it to the House floor for a vote as soon as possible,” said Brown.
