XRA APPLAUDS THE PUBLICATION OF UL8400

UL2

Washington, D.C. – The XR Association (XRA) commends UL Solutions for taking an essential step in advancing the conversation on uniform device safety standards for XR technology. With the development and publication of UL 8400, Standard for Safety for Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality Technology Equipment, UL has set a reference point, from which XRA and its members can further develop standards that support the continued responsible development of new XR products while allowing innovation to move at a brisk pace.

XRA and its members are proud to contribute to this effort and look forward to working with UL and other standards development organizations to further develop this and other standards for the betterment of the industry and consumers’ experience with XR products.

Stephanie Montgomery, Senior Vice President of Research & Best Practices, XRA

UL’s standard includes device tests for thermal measures, mechanical robustness, see-through visual functions, and skin compatibility, among other uses. As XR technology continues to advance and evolve into the next great computing platform, voluntary standards like this help improve the safety of XR technology and consumers’ trust in it.
