Austin, TX – On Sunday, March 10, Elizabeth Hyman, CEO of the XR Association, moderated a fireside chat and panel discussion at SXSW 2024 in Austin, TX. SXSW is an annual convergence of creativity, technology, and culture, showcasing the latest innovations in cutting-edge technology, interactive media, film, and more.
The fireside chat titled, “Cruising with Augmented Reality: Exploring Entertainment in Autonomous Cars,” featured Geoffrey Bouquot, CTO of Valeo, and Nick Facey, Managing Producer of Industry Solutions at Unity. In this fireside chat, Hyman, Facey, and Bouquot explored the concept of vehicles becoming the next exciting gaming and AR arena. They also discussed Unity and Valeo’s seamless integration of in-car sensor video feeds, external data, and immersive gaming environments using innovative software solutions. The call to action was to challenge creators to think about new and innovative ways in which all of these ingredients come together and what it means for the user experience.
Later that day, Hyman moderated the SeedAI panel discussion titled, “Democratizing AI: Training the Next AI Workforce.” Hyman was joined by Olivia Ignowke, Head of U.S. Congressional and Political Affairs at Amazon, Jon Berroya, Director of Government Affairs and Public Policy at Google, and Muhsinah Morris, Metaversity Director and Senior Assistant Professor of Education at Morehouse College. Panelists discussed how to shape engagement so that AI augments workers and allows them to be more productive, and how the fusion of AI and XR is a powerful medium in which to learn and train for the changing landscape of careers and opportunity.
