
The XR Industry has made tremendous strides in demonstrating the value of immersive technologies for workforce training, with applications spanning healthcare, manufacturing, education, defense, and beyond. Yet despite proven success, many organizations still face challenges when adopting XR solutions, not because the technology falls short, but because measuring impact and preparing for successful implementation remain significant hurdles. To better understand these challenges, the XR Association partnered with the University of Delaware’s Institute for Public Administration and the RXN Group to examine how organizations can better evaluate the return on investment of XR training technologies.
Developing and Testing Return on Investment Framework for Extended Reality Training Technologies, explores how XR creates value through outcomes such as improved safety, faster learning, reduced errors, greater accessibility, and expanded training capacity. The study also found that implementation success depends heavily on organizational readiness, including staffing, infrastructure, content alignment, and clear evaluation strategies. To help address these gaps, the report introduces a practical framework for identifying ROI pathways, assessing deployment readiness, and establishing industry benchmarks that can support broader adoption.
