College Park, MD – On August 30th, the XR Association and Dr. Amitabh Varshney, Dean of the College of Computer, Mathematics, and Natural Sciences, hosted a tour and demo event for Rep. Glenn Ivey (D-MD), Chike Aguh, Member of Maryland’s Higher Education Commission, and officials from the Department of Commerce at the University of Maryland’s College Park Campus. The University of Maryland is a national leader in immersive technologies.

This event provided policymakers the opportunity to explore the university’s new HoloCamera facility, a spatially-enveloping 300-camera array for volumetric capture of holographic avatars. Attendees also got to try VR experiences that were developed on campus, including surgical training and conflict resolution. As a part of its ongoing initiative, XRA aimed to bring XR “closer to home” for Members of Congress through these visits, providing Representatives and other government officials with a firsthand experience of immersive technology.
