XR ASSOCIATION RELEASES FIFTH CHAPTER OF DEVELOPERS GUIDE FOCUSED ON HEALTHCARE

Washington, D.C. – Last week, the XR Association (XRA), the trade association representing the growing ecosystem of companies powering virtual, augmented, and mixed reality (XR), published the newest chapter of its Developers Guide, a starter guide for developers designing immersive experiences. Chapter 5: “Designing Immersive Solutions for Healthcare,” offers a comprehensive set of best practices for developers when creating immersive experiences tailored for the healthcare sector.

“Healthcare is one of the fastest-evolving fields. Whether discovering new treatments for existing illnesses or finding ways to stem the spread of new diseases, healthcare workers are on the front lines of keeping us healthy. And their job keeps getting tougher. Immersive technology is increasingly being deployed to assist their efforts. From state-of-the-art training to precision treatments and access to care, XR technology is changing how we practice medicine.”

Elizabeth Hyman, CEO of the XR Association

This chapter of the XRA Developers Guide emphasizes the importance of creating programs tailored for healthcare. It outlines hardware and infrastructure requirements, successful use cases, and recommendations for developers in creating powerful XR experiences. “Designing Immersive Solutions for Healthcare” also discusses how to create comfortable and safe environments for both healthcare providers and patients by implementing inclusive features and applications. Done effectively, XR can improve patient care and spur positive outcomes.

“The sky is the limit for how we can use XR in the healthcare industry. Patients can see improved outcomes, and providers can improve the quality of care for their patients. XRA’s Developers Guide outlines how XR technologies can impact the space, and provides guidance on the mechanisms available to maximize the impact.”

Amy Hedrick, Founder and CEO of Cleanbox Technology, Chair of XRA’s Healthcare Working Group

This newest addition to XRA’s Developers Guide represents further progress towards XRA’s mission of promoting the responsible development of XR technology. As XR hardware continues to evolve, manufacturers and software developers are working to positively transform the way in which healthcare professionals provide care and patients receive care. Therefore, effective implementation is key to expanding XR for healthcare.
