XR ACCESS AND XRA HOSTED COMMUNITY DISCUSSION ON AI AND IMMERSIVE TECH

Washington, D.C. – On Monday, March 17, the XR Association and XR Access recently hosted a thought-provoking discussion on the role of AI and immersive technology in advancing digital accessibility. Bringing together leading experts, including Yuhang Zhao (University of Wisconsin-Madison), Andy Slater (Virtual Access Lab), and Thomas Logan (Equal Entry), the conversation explored cutting-edge innovations that are breaking down barriers and unlocking new possibilities for people with disabilities. The panelists shared insights on how AI-driven tools and immersive experiences are reshaping the way individuals interact with digital environments, making them more inclusive and user-friendly.

The discussion highlighted real-world applications of AI and XR in enhancing accessibility, from AI-powered captioning and sign language interpretation in virtual spaces to haptic feedback and adaptive interfaces that cater to diverse user needs. Panelists emphasized the importance of designing with accessibility in mind from the outset, ensuring that emerging technologies are inclusive rather than requiring retroactive adaptations.
