Washington, D.C. — The XR Association (XRA), the trade association representing the growing ecosystem of companies powering virtual, augmented, and mixed reality (immersive technology or XR), announced its support for the nomination of Michael Kratsios as Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP).
Kratsios, who previously served as U.S. Chief Technology Officer and Acting Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, has a proven track record of fostering innovation in emerging technologies. His leadership on initiatives advancing artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and 5G infrastructure has solidified his reputation as a visionary in the tech industry. XRA believes his appointment will be pivotal in shaping policies that enable immersive technologies to thrive responsibly.
“XRA congratulates Michael Kratsios on being nominated to serve as Director of OSTP. XRA commends Kratsios for his work championing innovation while prioritizing trust and transparency in technology development. His experience makes him an exceptional choice to lead the OSTP at a time when emerging technologies are transforming industries and creating new opportunities to bolster the U.S.’s global economic leadership,” said Elizabeth Hyman, CEO of the XR Association. “We hope that the Senate confirmation process for him will be swift so that work can begin on building an enabling environment for emerging technologies to thrive.”
A coalition letter signed by 19 organizations, including the XR Association (XRA), the App Association (ACT), Business Software Alliance (BSA), Consumer Technology Association (CTA), Information Technology Industry Council (ITIC), and TechNet, has been sent to Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee Chairman Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Ranking Member Maria Cantwell (D-Washington). The letter highlights Kratsios’ ability to drive policies that foster U.S. innovation.
The XRA is eager to see how Kratsios, as the head of OSTP, will champion policies that drive innovation while ensuring immersive technologies are developed with a focus on safety, accessibility, and inclusivity.
