Washington, D.C. – It’s time to write the next chapter of XRA’s Developer Guides series, focusing on best practices for creating immersive experiences tailored to youth audiences. As XR technology continues to expand across industries—from healthcare and manufacturing to education—the need for targeted guidance has never been greater.
With key legislation, including the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) and the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), remaining hot topics in Congress, and VR entertainment gaining popularity as headset prices drop, the timing couldn’t be better to address these important issues. Currently, 32% of U.S. youth own VR headsets, underscoring the growing importance of creating safe, engaging, and age-appropriate immersive experiences.
The new chapter in our Developer’s Guide will provide critical insights to help developers navigate the unique considerations of designing immersive experiences for younger users. This initiative reflects XRA’s commitment to supporting innovation while prioritizing user safety and ethical design principles.
We invite all interested stakeholders to join us for the kick-off meeting of the Ad-Hoc Committee on Youth in Immersive Experiences. The meeting will be held on January 23, 2025, at 2:30 PM EST, where we will review potential content topics for this Developer Guide chapter. To receive the meeting invitation, please contact Peirce Clark.
For those who are not currently XRA members but would like to contribute to this important initiative, we encourage you to become part of our community. Please fill out the “Join Us Now” form at xra.org and help shape the future of immersive experiences for youth.
